When should I turn on my sprinklers in Colorado Springs?

Every year at about this time, we start getting lots of calls and emails from clients asking “when should I turn on my irrigation system”? While it’s tempting to turn on your water during nice stretches of weather, we recommend waiting until after April 15th to help prevent freeze damage from occurring. If you turn on your system prematurely and it freezes, you could end up with several hundred dollars worth of damage to your copper piping, backflow and valves.

According to the National Weather Service, Colorado Springs final freeze of the winter is May 8th on average. Therefore, it’s possible you will need to perform a quick drain on your system if you’ve turned it on and the temperature falls below freezing. Check out our video here with instructions on how to do a quick drain on your irrigation system.
